Updating WordPress In Two Clicks

If you are the owner of a WordPress site, as most of my clients are, it is very, very important that you keep your WordPress installation up to date at all times. Doing so assures your site will have all the latest security fixes, keeping the hacker-bots at bay. In addition, with each new update you will also often get new features to help manage your site.

It is really, really easy to update WordPress from inside your website control panel. I will walk you through it.

Quick Tip:
Follow these two simple steps (clicks) to make sure your WordPress website is always up to date with the latest security patches.

2 Steps to Update WordPress

Before you update: Make sure your site is backed up. The most basic way is to utilize the built in WordPress export tool. I will post on that in the coming days.

1. When your WordPress site needs an update there will be an alert bar at the top of your website control panel. Log into your website admin area as normal. Click the “Please update now” link in the update alert bar. See image below.

Your WordPress site will alert you to the need for an update when you are logged in to your control panel.

2. On the WordPress Updates page you will see a button to “Update Now.” It is as simple as clicking that button and waiting for the update to finsih. Make sure not to click anything else until the update is complete. When complete, it will usually take you to a page talking about new features. You can then use your control panel as normal.
